10 Reasons Why You Should Book A Last-minute Stay to London This June

Contemplating a last-minute trip to London but need some convincing? Here’s our 10 reasons why London is always a great idea, particularly this June!

There’s events galore

June is when the summer festivities really start kicking off in London, and with an events calendar bursting at the seams, you won’t want to miss being in our city.

Whether or not you have tickets for the London Taste Festival, Cinch Championships, BST Hyde Park or the MLB World Tour (plus everything else in-between), the atmosphere in London is a different kind of electric, and a place you will want to be in the centre of.

London is a great place to celebrate Pride Month

June is internationally known as Pride Month and there’s plenty to get involved in to protest, learn, celebrate and educate when it comes to the London-based and wider LGBT+ community, plus its history.

At the end of June, the months’ events will culminate in London’s annual Pride festival on Saturday 1st July, which takes over Soho and the surrounding areas. Beginning at Hyde Park Corner, the parade will make its way down Piccadilly, to Haymarket and the iconic Trafalgar Square, before ending at Whitehall Place. From there, an impressive lineup of musicians will help you carry the festive merriment into the evening.

The finer details of the Pride parade are yet to be confirmed, but if it’s anything like *every other year before*, then you will be in for a treat. It’s certainly not one to miss!

Father’s Day in London is the best

If it isn’t a trip to London for you and your father or father-figure to celebrate the occasion, perhaps you should book a last-minute trip for them instead.

After all, the best gift you can ever buy someone is the memories and moments that go hand-in-hand with travelling or spending time with a loved one.

And we may be are totally biassed, but London is a great place to have fun, spoil yourselves and celebrate. From critically acclaimed West End theatre shows like Les Miserables, occasion-perfect dining spots such as Big Mama’s ‘Gloria’ restaurant to the super fun and more unusual like The Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit, you really can celebrate your father or father figure in a way they would love.

Because summer in London is great

The summer months in London can be hot and humid, but the city moves at a slower and (slightly) calmer pace. It really is a unique feeling to be in the middle of somewhere that is always ‘on’, only to find the ‘relax’ button has been set.

Londoners flock to the nearest lido’s, Hampstead Heath’s swimming ponds, and Hyde Park’s Serpentine Lido in search of the perfect place to sunbathe and cool down, before heading to a rooftop bar, pub garden or somewhere by the river.

You can either join their pace and experience a Londoner’s idea of summer, or you can use this opportunity to get around and see the sights with slightly fewer people in your path. Either way, London is a great summer destination and one that will probably end up surprising you.

If you love the royals

With London being the home of the royal family, it is naturally the perfect place to visit if you love and adore them.

Whenever you choose to visit, you will be able to watch the regular Changing of The Guard procession for free, in addition to many other royal themed attractions.

Tours of current and former royal residences are available to book throughout the year, such as Windsor Castle, Henry VIII’s Royal Hampton Court Palace, and Queen Victoria’s birthplace, Kensington Palace, and other attractions such as the Tower of London are also on our doorstep.

What’s most exciting, however, is HRH King Charles’ birthday this June, which will be celebrated with the Trooping of the Colour at the King’s Birthday Parade, on Saturday 17th June. The online ballot for seated tickets has already closed, but you can still watch by standing on The Mall or at the edge of St James’s Park from 9AM!

It’s time to be spontaneous

It is thought that spontaneity can lead to a greater feeling of happiness, which makes us wonder… why would you ever deny yourself this gift?

London is a great city to be spontaneous in, as there’s always restaurants with last-minute reservations available, and a lot of attractions you can show up to on the day.

If you’re a theatre lover, you might just snap up a great on-the-day deal too! If you head to the theatre’s Box Office a few hours before the show, you might find a 50% off full price stall seats with excellent views kind of deal!

London is back to its usual self

We hate to say the dreaded C-word - especially after a whole year without it - but Covid seems to be a distant memory now, especially in London.

You will find that some businesses are still adopting Covid-friendly practices for the better (including us - did you know we’re cashless now?), but London is back to its usual self - or its ‘new self’ - so it’s the perfect time to visit and experience London in the way you would have done before the infamous March 2020 hit.

A tick off the bucket list, perhaps?

For lots of people, London is one of those ‘bucket list’ destinations, and for good reason too.

From a distinct creative style that ranges from fashion through to dance, some of the world’s best restaurants and oldest bars, plus a history spanning wars, prolific murderers (hello, Jack the Ripper) and everything in-between, our city is interesting to so many people for so many reasons.

Seeing your version of London can often be no mean feat, and we know just how tiring all this sightseeing can be. We work with Ask William who will be able to plan the perfect trip to London for you and, after an amazing day out, you’ll be returning to the best place to call home; The Gate.

HA! We’ve caught you out.

If none of the above reasons were speaking to you, then we can 100% guarantee this one will because, well - just because, really.

London is such a vibrant place to be; it’s full of events, character, history, charm and a dash of quirkiness too. We can guarantee that London has something for everyone’s personal interests, style and travel preferences, and we dare you to come and see that for yourself.
