Immerse, Engage, Unwind at The Gate
Guest Privileges
As a guest at The Gate, you have access to an array of benefits including complimentary events, workshops and classes. We like to offer a roundup of immersive happenings that can help to broaden your mind, open your energy and flow and to aid your relaxation, allowing you to get a better sleep in our super comfy Synos beds.
Body
Yoga might be more accessible and popular now than it has ever been but there is a reason for this – it is so good for full body workouts. Not only does it sharpen your concentration, therefore enabling a strong mental focus, it helps to stretch, flex and strengthen the body through lengthening poses and control of your breath. There is not a lot of other exercises that serve as a meditative dose of tranquillity as well as working your body out!
Health benefits of yoga:
Helps improve general wellbeing by relieving stress, supporting good healthy habits, and improving mental/emotional health, sleep, and balance
Can relieve low-back pain and neck pain, and possibly pain from tension-type headaches and knee osteoarthritis
May help people who are overweight or obese lose weight
Has helped people quit smoking
Help people manage anxiety or depressive symptoms associated with difficult life situations
Relieve menopause symptoms
Help people with chronic diseases manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
We offer regular yoga sessions at The Gate and sometimes in the summer months we have outdoor classes on the outdoor terrace.
Mind
Arguably, yoga ticks this box too, but we also host other workshops and master classes that help serve your mind. We run classes that explore breathwork, meditation and smudging.
Breathwork is more commonly known as ‘rebirthing’, yes, we know that sounds a tad strange, but in essence breathwork is a totally liberating practice and helps unleash inner emotions and some angst you probably did not realise you had lurking!
Breathwork is the conscious control of breathing and is said to influence a person's mental, emotional or physical state, with a claimed therapeutic effect. During a breathwork session, individuals will typically lie down and be instructed to breathe using methods, depending on the sub-type of breathwork. Breathwork practitioners believe that an individual's particular pattern of passive breathing can lead to insights about their unconscious mind.
Everyone has some sort of experience of meditation, and here at The Gate we focus on equipping our guests with short and easy exercises to help quieten the mind to help to unfurl after a busy day or week and be more open to relaxation and a good night’s sleep.
Part of some wellbeing workshops we hold incorporate the burning of Palo Santo just before meditation to create a calm, tranquil atmosphere or to cleanse negative energies from themselves. Burning Palo Santo will leave the space feeling relaxed and smelling divine.
Other practitioners also teach the art of journaling too, which is the practice of writing down your thoughts and feelings for the purposes of self-discovery, self-understanding, and self-reflection. As one of the oldest forms of self-help in the world, journaling is about exploring one’s own thoughts, feelings, memories, and hidden desires through the written word and is a great practice to strengthen your mind.
Soul
Part of our wellbeing workshops, every second Tuesday, all tea lovers are invited to an inspiring tea ceremony at The Gate hotel. We have created this exclusive space as our gift for tea lovers and anyone in need of rest and relaxation.
Our tea ceremonies have been carefully designed to ensure you enjoy the best possible experience.
• Groups are kept small for optimal privacy and comfort
• Tea ceremonies are held in ‘The 5th Lounge’, a space created just for you to relax
• Each ceremony lasts 90 minutes so you have all the time needed to slow down and absorb the calm environment
• Ceremonies are guided by a certified teacher.
Not everything that is good for the mind, body and soul is part of our wellbeing approaches, we also believe that discovery of the local area, visiting markets, immersing in the culture, visiting galleries and supporting local coffee shops, cafes and independent breweries are all enriching and immersive too. There is plenty to do in and around The Gate to enhance your experiences in London. Just ask and we are happy to recommend.
